The Jays

This morning I saw something really bizzare. I was crossing the overhead bridge to my bus-stop to take my bus to work. I saw two very elderly ladies seated at the bus-stop waiting area. Just as I reached the bus-stop, they suddenly stood up and decided to cross the road. Now why would crossing the road be bizzare?

1. The 2 aunties were carrying heavy bags from their marketing.

2. The 2 aunties looked like they were having some leg problems - couldn't walk fast.

3. The 2 aunties were jaywalking in a heavy traffic road.

It was kind of funny yet scary.

Then comes the next adventure... crossing the railing...

Auntie 1 tries to cross the railing but realised she couldn't even place her first leg over. She tried a few times before coming up with a brilliant idea. She placed all her grocery bags on the other side first. Then she placed her first leg over and sat on the railing (because the railing seems to be higher than her). As she has difficulty moving her other leg up, she asked Auntie 2 to help her lift the other leg. Auntie 2 put down all her own groceries and helped Auntie 1 lift her leg. It was a heavy task but she succeeded!

I was really quite amazed at the 2 aunties' antics. Primarily because they chose when it's the heaviest traffic to cross the road and they choose to climb over that railing when just 2 metres down, there is NO railing. Of course, there's the overhead bridge right beside the bus-stop for our safety but maybe the aunties found it too strenuous to climb the steps.

Just when I thought I saw enough for the day, I saw this young lady trying to dash across the busiest street in Singapore at peak hour - Raffles Place Road (where Shenton Way connects to Raffles Place).

I am just amazed at how little regard they have for their own safety.

Food for thought - Growing...

Growing older is mandatory ;

Growing up is optional.

Testimony

Just to write about a recent breakthrough in my job.

Some of my friends knew that I started a new job recently. This job offer came supernaturally at a time when I was facing a lot of trials & tribulations with my ex-boss in the previous job. It was so trying that I contemplated quitting without a job. Then, out of nowhere, in late July, I was referred for an opening. I went for the interview, and they offered me the following week. It is a job I like, & the offer is embarrassingly good. I get a good raise – which I did not ask – and, it is the second increment I’m getting in this year.

I dunno what to say.

God is good, and his goodness is beyond my wildest understanding. There is really (x3) only one reason why I’m blessed – the grace of God. Thank you Jesus.. As good as the job & pay are, the greatest blessing is You indeed.

Happy Birthday Singapore: A Jarbebe Contribution

The Birthday Celebration

Life, according to Singapore

1. The oilier, the better
When it comes to food, that is. Where else in the world can you find food that is elaborated by oil, accentuated by lard, and enhanced by grease? Where can we find such awesome-tasting collaboration of culture? Where else can we eat prata for breakfast, wanton mee for lunch, nasi bryani for dinner, and ice kachang for dessert, all at the same place?

Nowhere but our hawker center. And oily too! Yes, name me food that taste good and I bet more than half of them has some form of oiliness in them - char kway teow (my one and only love in life on a plate), bak chor mee, prata, murtabak, nasi goreng, mee siam, fried carrot cake....

Oily Paradiso...

2. When the going gets tough, the tough goes shopping
Great Singapore Sale, pre-Christmas sale, post-Chinese New Year Sale, Store opening sale, closing sale, pre-pre-Hari Raya Sale, roadside-auntie-selling-tissue-paper Sale........ One has absolutely no reason to be in a wreck because shopping is the cure for all mankind. If only leaders of the world learn how to shop, all wars will stop.

Buy water from Malaysia.... got discount?

No wonder Singapore is (pretty) safe.

3. Singing is the cure to all boredom
Karaoke, checked. Yearly NDP song, checked. Yearly NDP song available at Kbox, checked. Seriously, it's not hard to find something to do in this tiny little land. Well, if one ran out of ideas, the K's are always a great place to go. Even when you're not into singing, one can just look at mtvs.

Hey, there's food too. (See 1.)

4. The changing nature of geography
One day you can be in Jurong. Five years later, you are in West Coast. Ten years later, you are in Bukit Timah... One can never be sure where you live anymore. Tectonic plates within Singapore are moving at such a fast pace that one simply cannot keep up.

5. The father, the son, and the holy goh
Sorry, I got this from somewhere else and have no choice but to put it because I think it's simply hilarious. It does explain how our country is governed, no?

I love Singapore. It's my life.

It's where I live, and where I miss.

It's where I learn, and where I love.

It's where I will get married, and where I belong.

It's where I work, and where I will retire.

Friends Caught in War Situations

Reading our Sane One's blog on her friend's husband not able to see his family due to war brings to mind that sometimes, safe in our own little haven here in Singapore, we forget that there are people who cannot see their loved ones or who live with bombings in their cities everyday. We are really blessed that the Lord keep His hand over us, that we have our loved ones near to us and having the opportunity to praise God every single day that we can step out of our house into clean streets and intact buildings.

I recently wrote to our Israel friend Sylvia (Dadu's wife) to see if she is doing ok with the bombing going on. Here is what she says:

"David is concerned about how this is all going to affect us again with people not wanting to come because of the missiles and rockets flying in the north at the moment. God will help us! We did not ask for this and we don't want this either, but this is the situation in this Land and we have to believe God has it all in His Hands.

Hizbollah the terror group is out to destroy anyone and everyone and the world should be thanking Israel for taking this step to hinder their plans. War is not remote-control, or elegant or clean and nice in any way and people get hurt. Hizbollah have been using the Lebanese people for years and now goes into their living rooms and bedrooms with rockets to shoot at Israeli cities. No nation in the world would let this happen and not retaliate. We are surely wanting a quick end to this situation. May God grant the victory. It is His battle..2 Chron. 20. 10-12"

Let's keep our friends who are caught in wars (wherever they be from) in prayers that the Lord keep them safe, assure their hearts of His protection & security and that their families will be provided for & comforted by the Lord during this time of absence.

word verification

This thinge is getting on some of our nerves lately. With all due respect to the ones who invented this to prevent abuse, why must word verification contain soooo000 many characters leh? And why must the characters be slanting or fancifully shaped such that it is difficult to tell what are some of those?

What you think of these,

Eh, am I the only one getting super cursive or very long words?
